Artifact for Standard Six: Communication Skills
Name of Artifact: Memo to parents of students who are failing/Communication Log
Date: January 5, 2013
Course: ED 556 Models and Theories II
Rationale:
This standard calls for the teacher to use clarity, organization, enthusiasm, and sensitivity. I selected a memo that I use to let parents and guardians know that their son or daughter is not passing the English 12 class that is necessary for graduation. By this point, I have been in communication with student and parent especially when poor behaviors and failing grades are prevalent. The memo outlines who, what, when, and where. I have to be organized enough to keep up with the grades so that there is ample time for students to recover, and improve their failing status. I have to have enthusiasm, and convince the parent that there is hope, and that their son or daughter can graduate. Finally, I must always convey sensitivity, because hearing the harsh news that their beloved student somehow missed the passing mark is devastating.
