Artifact for Standard Ten: Partnerships
Name of Artifact: Domestic Missionary
Date: ongoing
Course: outside Averett
Rationale:
Pamela Hairston volunteers in her local community through her church. She is a domestic missionary which means that she does not travel outside the United States to fulfill her responsibilities. She visits local nursing homes, serves food to the homeless, and participates in a group entitled Ladies Can We Talk? Pamela facilitates this group along with another parishioner from her church. They counsel young mothers who face challenges with their families, jobs, and their own inner conflicts, among several others. Her aspiration is to serve as a role model to her students whom she often encourages to volunteer. When she teaches the resume unit, she shares her own partnership experiences that will hopefully inspire her students to not only list their efforts on their resumes, but to also learn and mature by helping others.
